Biography: Grażyna Bacewicz studied both violin and composition in Warsaw and Paris, . Prior to WWII, she was the principal violinist of the Polish Radio Orchestra, for whom she also wrote, becoming internationally recognized.

After the war, she became a professor at the State Conservatoire of Music in Łódź, while still performing and composing. After a serious car accident, she dedicated her work strictly to composition.

While many of her works focus on violin, she also composed for full orchestra (including four symphonies), vocal works, and film scores, winning many awards for her efforts.

The Polish Post honored Bacewicz with a commemorative stamp in 2009
